EMS Ltd are delighted to work in partnership with a number of schools around Hull and the East Riding, under both our Growing and Nature strands of work.
As part of our growing initiative we support schools to set up their own gardening clubs, giving children the opportunity to learn how to grow fruit, vegetables and herbs for themselves, and how to use the produce they grow to create tasty, nutritious meals. From supporting staff and pupils to design and then create their growing area, to producing planting plans, to running fun, curriculum-linked hands-on garden sessions, we work with schools to create projects which provide vivid and interesting practical experiences for pupils, enhancing their understanding of where food comes from and the many benefits of growing your own.
Separately to this we also offer a basic garden maintenance service to schools, covering tasks such as planting and weeding ornamental beds, clearing ponds, and pruning trees. Our dedicated team of volunteers, many of whom are out of work and/or socially marginalised, support us to provide this service, and they receive valuable work experience and relevant training in return for their contribution.
