We have been running cooking on a budget sessions since July 2016. The idea behind the project is to encourage people to cook meals from fresh ingredients as this is cheaper and far better for them health wise. The recipes we use are all designed to be cooked in one pot, be ready in 30 minutes or less, will feed 2 adults and 2 children and cost between £7 per meal.
We give practical demonstrations of how to prepare a variety of meals using a range of fresh ingredients and provide recipe cards to accompany each meal which are available for all attendees to take with them at the end of the session. Once the meals are ready, people can plate up anything they want to try, and, if there is anything left over they can take it home with them to give to partners, family members, friends etc. We encourage parents/carers to bring their children along whenever possible as this can help develop an interest in cooking and will also allow families to agree on recipes that they use in the future.
